On to London
Well, our time in Bangkok ended with that credit card fraud but all is ok cos the bank has come to the party and we were able to give full details of those who we think were responsible.
We flew to London via Frankfurt which was quite an experience! The airline we used for this leg of the trip was Lufthansa. I wouldn't rush back or recommend that airline simply because of the lack of space. The service was great and the food was good but Jules and I spent 11 hours with our knees jammed against the seat in front. Suffice to say I was not a happy camper when we got to frankfurt cos the lack of space also meant I'd had very little sleep. Would you believe the flight from frankfurt to london (approx 1hour) had twice as much room??!!!
Anyway, at frankfurt airport I became unusually familiar with the airport staff when I got searched after the belt buckles on my trousers set off the metal detector. they do things alittle differently there. not only do they have the hand-held metal detectors but, as I discovered, they also run their hands over EVERY part of your body as well. Hmmmm.....
When I arrived in london my cousin Jess picked me up from the airport and we pretty much went straight to her and Dave's engagment party. That was great cos it got me out and about straight away (we started drinking bout 2pm), I met new poeple and it helped me get in the timezone. i hit the wall about 10pm that night (something like 1.5-2days no sleep!!).
Since then I have been catching up with friends, poking around the city and going to various interviews. No Jobs yet tho, altho there is one potential if I decide I want to leave law. London is very pretty. Sounds like we have arrived at the right time cos it is starting to warm up and all the blossoms are out. I have seen lots of squirrals - they say they are a pest here, but really the squirrals are very cute! So far the tube is fun! everyone tells me my view of that will change in the not too distant future tho and it doesn't seem as expensive as I was expecting it to be. I reckon that food is actually a bit cheaper than home as are many of the other costs I have incurred. i understand the big hit will be the cost of flatting so I will let you know on that.
I have giggled a number of times at the accents here. Everyone keeps saying that it is me with the accent but we all know better aye...and the most common phrase I have heard since being here?? 'ullo gorgeous' or 'ullo darlin' usually as I am walking down the street.
I have been to a few pubs (I know this comes as a surprise to many of you) and I love it!! Something tells me I am going to enjoy London.....
Thats enough for now I reckon! Will e-mail you all with contact details and will update when I have work etc!
Take care,
til next time,
A
